What’s Your Status?: SXSW 2016!

During SXSW 2016, I had an amazing time taking in the loud music. Despite being under 21 and barely getting into venues; I still managed to snatch a few interviews with some of the artists performing in town!

I first met was electro pop duo SIGNY, official showcasing artists for SXSW.

Long time internet friends Amy and Delaney formed SIGNY in 2015. They debuted at Stubbs just 10 days before their big performance at SXSW’s 30th Birthday Party featuring Chvrches, Peaches, Capsula, and many more. They sat down to talk with me about their unnamed debut LP….

Next, SXSW showcaser and indie-blues singer/songwriter Jackie Venson took time to have a one on one conversation about her latest work! She talked about her journey from being a classically trained pianist to performing blues on her electric guitar within a span of four years. She performed her songs “Always Free” and “Real Love” live.

Not all superheroes wear capes, some of them are in a band! I met up with Bardo, Carlos, Eduardo, and Gabriel of psychedelic funk band Chicano Batman after their set at The Mohawk. They talked to me about opening for Grammy Award winning rock quartet Alabama Shakes, race in the music industry, Black Lipstick, and more:

Last but not least is a new rapper Kyree Doran a.k.a WRONGBOY. We talked about his first album “Smoke Signals”, his thoughts on toxic masculinity in rap, and how hip hop and punk rock intersect. You’ll have to tune in next Tuesday (March 29, 2016) at 2:00 p.m. CST to hear the conversation live on What’s Your Status on 91.7 KOOP, koop.org, and TuneIn.
