Meet Mr. Alexander Porter, E4 Youth’s 1st District Ambassador

Alexander W. Porter is a proud Native Austinite and lifelong public servant whose remarkable career spans military service, law, education, and community leadership. As part of our commitment to honoring and preserving his legacy, E4 Youth will partner with the Austin History Center to deepen Mr. Porter’s archive and help ensure that his life’s work, his documents, photos, and oral histories, are preserved for generations to come.

More About Mr. Porter:

A graduate of the original Anderson High School, Mr. Porter went on to complete training at the United States Air Force School of Aviation Medicine, where he served as Head of Medical Laboratories at Bergstrom Air Force Base and Osan Air Base in Korea. He later made history as the first African American Medical Technologist recognized by the Travis County Medical Society. After earning degrees from Huston-Tillotson University and the University of Texas School of Law, Mr. Porter broke another barrier by becoming the first African American Special Agent in the FBI from Texas, conducting criminal and undercover investigations.

His federal service extended through seven Presidential administrations, during which he contributed to pivotal national investigations, including those into the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as the Poor People’s Campaign.

Mr. Porter’s distinguished public service continued as Regional Attorney for the Office of Economic Opportunity in Austin, Texas, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Quality Assurance Officer for the Social Security Administration (Region III); and Regional Administrator for the Family Support Administration (Region III). Upon returning to Texas, he served as General Counsel for a Texas State Agency in Austin.

In addition to his legal and administrative leadership, Mr. Porter devoted time to education and athletics as an Adjunct Professor and Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Burlington County College in New Jersey. A Certified Professional Tennis Teacher and United States Tennis Association Umpire and Referee, he has taught and officiated tennis in both New Jersey and the Austin area. Today, Mr. Porter continues to inspire others as a motivational speaker in the Austin community. He resides in Pflugerville, Texas, and is a dedicated member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He is the proud father of daughters Sharon and Carol.
