MVMT50 Opening Reception – Top 10 Innovators Awards

Friday, March 7, 6:00-9:00 PM – The Carver Museum

Since I’m going to be going to this event with Mr.Perez I think it’ll be a perfect way to kick off my SXSW experience. I think that a top 10 list would be an easier way to get into covering SXSW. It should be easy to regurgitate into a neat little blog.

Content Idea: Obviously a blog will be created, but I’m thinking about having all 10 people with 2-3 sentences about them and their innovations. I also think that having our personal favorite innovator would be nice. But I also think that we could do a quick-recap sort of video for the list with a voiceover and a few clips of each innovator.  Or we could interview people there and ask them who their favorite innovator was, and why.

Gaming Expo – Beyond The Cutscene: Designing “That Dragon, Cancer”

Friday, March 7, 7:30 – 8:15 PM – Palmer Events Center

That Dragon, Cancer is an adventure game that acts as a living painting; a poem; an interactive retelling of Ryan and Amy Green’s experience raising their son Joel, a 4-year-old currently fighting his third year of terminal cancer.

I really hope to cover this event. I think that this an extremely special game/piece of art work. It takes an interactive game and a deep and very real story. You should check out the site.

Content Idea: I’m hoping that Ryan himself will be there, but either way an overview of this event with a blog an maybe a few bits from the event.

Gaming Expo – Indie Corner

Saturday, March 8, 12:00 – 8:00 PM – Palmer Event Center

Indie games are growing and growing. I’ve noticed that with an independent company time crunches aren’t forced upon developers to push out a pseudo-polished game that’s meant to entertain the lowest common denominator. Indie games have interesting stories and interesting people behind them. I’d love to talk to indie developers in person and try out some of their games while I’m at it.

Content Idea: Interviews with indie developers would be phenomenal. I’d probably ask them about their difference between their publisher-owner counter parts. I also think that the process of making a game come to life can spawn great conversations and interesting bits about a company. We could also make a blog with each of us (the people from my team) select their top indie games and why.

Gaming Expo – Oculus Loft

Saturday, March 8, 12:00 – 6:00 PM – Brazos Lofts

The Oculus loft will be showcasing many different types of media through the amazing Oculus Rift. The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset that allows you to interact with media (mainly video games) in an extremely engaging way. I’m a big advocate for this type of technology and I’ve wanted to try out this head set for a very long time now.

Content Idea: Depending on who’s there we could definitely have a first-impression of the Oculus and have interviews with content creators in there about how the rift changes the way their content is consumed. How they could incorporate the VR into everyday situations and the difficulties of developing content for this device. I think this event has much potential for content creation from us.

Film – Last Hijack

Sunday, March 9, 11:50 AM – 12:36 PM

This documentary takes a look at life in Somalia from a Somalian pirate’s perspective. This is obviously a very interesting perspective in my opinion. I’ve wanted to get more knowledgeable about places like Somalia, and I think that this is a great way to do so. It also looks like a very well made documentary.

Content Idea: I believe that we could do a very good review on this documentary. We could also ask the people after the show what their opinion was on the film and have a hipster.mp4 type of video made.

Film – The Immortalists

Sunday, March 9, 2:00 – 3:19 PM – AMC Theater at VVC

This film looks extremely interesting to me. Immortality is a pretty awesome and scary concept. I like that it takes a personal aspect to the lives of these scientists.

Content Idea: I’d really like to write a review on this documentary. I think that asking something like “what if you had the ability to be immortal”. Again, I think interviews like that will be a lot of fun.
