Midterm Review

Things to Know:

1. What are the types of white balance and draw the symbol for each.

Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Shade, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Flash, Custom

2. What is the difference among large format cameras, medium format, DSLR, and compact?

Large formats are used for landscape, fine art photography, and scientific applications.

Medium formats are film and digital cameras that record images on media larger than 35 mm, but smaller than 4×5 size mostly used from the 1890’s to the 1950’s.

DSLR’s have automatic or semi manual, or manual settings. Used by professional photographers or photo enthusiasts, have memory cards instead of film. Lenses can be changed.

Compact cameras are often known as “point and shoot”. No lenses can be changed. Has automatic settings.

3. What time periods were they used?

Large formats are still in use today. 

Medium Formats were used from 1890’s to 1950’s

DSLRS are still used today and so are compact cameras.

4. What does SLR stand for?

Single lens reflex

5. Who made the first photograph?

Niepce

6.Who is Daguerre and what did he contribute?

Created images on silver plated copper.

7. What is the rule of thirds? What would a photo look like using this?

The photo is divided into 3 quadrants vertically and horizontally, placing the subject of the picture where the lines intersect.

8. What are leading lines?

An object or multiple objects directing your eye to one area of the photograph.

9. What is framing?

Using objects to frame the subject so that your eye is directed towards the place where you want it to.

10. What’s the difference between bird’s eye and worm’s eye view?

Birds eye view is a picture thats taken above the subject(looking down), worms eye view is where the photo is taken below the subject.(looking up)

11.  What is libel?

Libel is when someone is exposed to hatred, ridicule, or has their reputation damaged as a result of false information that has been published.

 

12. What is obscenity? The acronym for the test to determine?

LAPS

13. What is invasion of privacy?

Intrusion, publishing private facts, Putting someone under false light.

14. Copyright infringement?

exploits any of the rights of copyright without the copyright owner’s permission 

 

15. What is the difference between being unethical and breaking the law in photojournalism?

Being unethical is when you publish something that would affect your concious or other peoples concious. Breaking the law is doing something thats against the law.
