CREATIVE MENTOR JOB SUMMARY

E4 Youth is recruiting Creative Mentors to run its growing numbers of enrichment clubs throughout Greater Austin. Creative Mentors are matched with Austin area teachers to provide support for local creative youth who are traditionally underserved. Creative Mentors extend learning beyond the classroom by coaching students through E4 Youth’s Employability Curriculum and content creation activities.
Based on a teacher’s needs, Creative Mentors provide a range of support including but not limited to immersive media production (3D content like VR/AR), audio/video production, visual design, journalism, photography, coding, web/application development, music composition and/or production, media production, writing, public speaking, and event planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in the high school classroom alongside the resident teacher to help guide one of the Get Creative Enrichment Clubs.
- Serve as a liaison between the high school teacher and E4 Youth.
- Use creative and technical skills in areas like immersive media production, audio/video production, visual design, journalism, photography, coding, web/application development, music composition and/or production, media production, writing, public speaking, and event planning to support learning in the classroom.
- Coach the high school students through E4 Youth’s Employability Curriculum.
- Guide their progress on developing their own creative projects and portfolios.
- Serve as a role model and tutor to high school students.
- Attend weekly meetings with other Creative Mentors and E4 Youth staff to co-work on Get Creative Enrichment Club operations and responsibilities.
- Attend weekly meetings with Digital Docents, Digital Apprentices, and E4 Youth staff to to participate in capacity-building activities, and to discuss their personal portfolios, resumes, soft skills, career options, etc.
HOURS & COMPENSATION
Creative Mentors typically work 8 hours per week and are paid $15 per hour as an employee of E4 Youth.
Creative Mentors must have availability to lead clubs during school hours (9AM-4PM) or after school (4PM-6PM), and are also required to meet weekly with other Creative Mentors for curriculum planning.
SUGGESTED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
- Currently enrolled in college or a recent graduate.
- Online portfolio and resume.
- Experience mentoring and/or coaching younger students.
- Strong writing, communication, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Experience with immersive media production including, but not limited to: 3D content, VR/AR, audio/video production, visual design, journalism, photography, coding, web/application development, music composition and/or production, media production, writing, public speaking, and event planning.

E4 Youth uses the arts, sciences and technology to bridge the gap for underserved teens into the creative economy. We help local teens learn employability skills and provide creative outlets for nearly 200 students participating our Get Creative Enrichment Clubs. Through our clubs, teens learn audio / video production, journalism, music, immersive VR and design thinking skills as they qualify for job shadow, internship and apprenticeship opportunities with leading companies.
