Youth Media Project Orientation Session
Last weekend 70+ students along with their parents descended on the University of Texas campus for an introduction to the Youth Media Project. The Black Media Council (University of Texas), MVMT50, and E4 Youth welcomed both alumni from last year’s program as well as a host of first-timers.
From January to early March this group of culturally diverse students will participate in a series of six 8-hr boot camps along with weekly assignments in weeks prior to the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival. Participants that make it through this intensive boot camp will qualify for SXSW Film & Interactive Gold badges. While at the festival, they’ll combine the skills that they’ve acquired and polished along with their unique perspectives to document and share SXSW activities through a variety of social media networks.
After an overview of the program the students and parents heard from alumni who shared their experiences and discussed how YMP benefited them. Finally, the students were given a chance to connect and relax by participating in a couple of fun icebreakers. It was a pleasure to see so many students, who walked in a bit uncertain about what they were getting into, leave incredibly excited to get the boot camp rolling. The first session begins this Saturday, January 25th!
