Things to Know:

1. What are the types of white balance and draw the symbol for each. Automatic White Balance (AWB), Daylight (sun), Cloudy (cloud), Shade (a house), Tungsten (light bulb), Fluorescent (red), Flash (lightning), Custom (sets with white balance)

2. What is the difference among large format cameras, medium format, DSLR, and compact? large format are used for filming, digital sensor and landscaping enlarged high levels of detail (4×5) medium format records images (4×5 and smaller). DSLR are single lens and one main lens is interchangeable. Compact cameras have minimum buttons, might not have zoom, and have no interchangeable parts.

6.Who is Daguerre and what did he contribute? He created images on a silver plated copper, coated with silver iodide and “developed” with warmed mercury. It was the first image that was fixed and did not fade and needed 30 minutes of light exposure

7. What is the rule of thirds? What would a photo look like using this? An imaginery tic-tac-toe chart where you photo should be placed in the intersected lines. In the top left or right of the camera, or bottom left or bottom right of the camera.

8. What are leading lines? lines leading up to the subject

9. What is framing? it can lead the viewer’s eye right to the subject

10. What’s the difference between bird’s eye and worm’s eye view? bird’s eye is looking below making the object look smaller and the worm’s eye view is looking from below making the object look bigger.

11.  What is libel? when someone is exposed hatred, ridicule, or their reputation is damaged because of false information that has been published

12. What is obscenity? The acronym for the test to determine? LAPS (Literary, Artistic, Political, and Scientific Value). Not within constitutionally protected speech or press.

13. What is invasion of privacy? intruding into someone’s personal life

14. Copyright infringement? exploits and the rights of copyright without the copyright owner’s permission

15. What is the difference between being unethical and breaking the law in photojournalism? if you break the law you can be jailed and being unethical you have to decide whether you should do it or not.
