Basics & Viewing Images

  • Open an image, multiple images, close files (command-o or file open) (click on the x on top) (shift click)
  • Undo something you’ve done (command-z or edit-step backwards)
  • View workspace panels
  • Using the tools panel (tools in the left side of the screen in photoshop colors are called “sqwashes”)
  • Zooming & Hand tools (helps move around)

Making Selections

  • Marquee tools (helps you select part of the pictures that you can change; shift for a perfect shape)
  • Lasso tool (highlight certain parts of the picture without using shapes, allows you to go around the picture)
  • Quick selection (allows you to highlight a selection used to make cut-outs)
  • Magic Wand tool (helps you refines the image you want to work with)
  • Inverting selections (have one part of the picture that you want)
  • Refining selections (refines your selection)
  • Using Quick Mask mode 

Layers

  • Creating a new layer (paint)
  • Changing the layer visibility
  • Deleting the layer
  • Changing the opacity of a layer
  • Duplicating a background

Enhancing and Retouching Photos

  • Cropping a photo
  • Straightening an image with the Ruler tool
  • Using the Smart Sharpen filter
  • Adjusting saturation
  • Adjusting brightness and contrast
  • Using neutral density gradient
  • Using the Dodge & Burn tools
  • Removing red eye
  • Spot Healing Brush tool & Healing Brush Tool
