Basics & Viewing Images

  • Open an image, multiple images, close files
    • File, Open, or Command O
    • Shift to select multiple images. Tabs represent each image.
    • Click X on top of tab.
  • Undo something you’ve done

  • Using the tools panel
    • On Left side of screen, colors are called swatches

Making Selections

  • Marquee tools
    • Tool panels, shift for perfect shape
  • Lasso tool
    • L, or in tool panel and highlights certain things
  • Quick selection
    • W, or tools to select
    • Options subtract from selection tool and deselect certain
  • Magic Wand tool
    • Click and hold on quick selection tool. Selects colors of photo
    • Change tolerance to be accurate
  • Inverting selections
    • To have one part of image.
    • Select, inverse
  • Refining selections
    • Refining
  • Using Quick Mask mode
    • Pick brush or B
    • Foreground color set to black
    • Click on quick mask mode button, paint and unclick button.

Layers

  • Creating a new layer
    • Go to layer panel, then click on new layer button on bottom right. Or go to layer, to new, and to layer and name it.
  • Changing the layer visibility
  • Deleting the layer
  • Changing the opacity of a layer
  • Duplicating a background

Enhancing and Retouching Photos

  • Cropping a photo
  • Straightening an image with the Ruler tool
  • Using the Smart Sharpen filter
  • Adjusting saturation

  • Removing red eye
  • Spot Healing Brush too
