A powerful performance and intimate conversation with one of Austin’s finest musicians. Jackie Venson is a blues guitarist, singer and songwriter that was born and raised in Austin. Most recently, she has become known for her advocacy on behalf of Black musical artists in Austin with her insistence that the long running music festival Blues on the Green feature an all Black line up. After an intial snub, followed by some timely press coverage, the promoters relented and agreed. Jackie Venson is curating the first ever all Black lineup for Blues on the Screen, which will air July 8, 2020 on the local Fox 7 News station.
Jackie gives us an inspired performance and provides insight on how and why she chooses to advocate for Black musicians in a powerful interview with Music Legacy ATX’s Director, Jonathan “Chaka” Mahone.
